Police Acted Appropriately To Ensure Security - Chua
KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 (Bernama) -- The MCA today defended the action of the police in controlling the situation around the capital during the illegal gathering on Saturday, which caused difficulties to the public.
Its president Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek said the party noted that the action of the police to disperse the protestors was solely for the security of the country.
"We don't have to agree with anybody. Out stand is very clear that the police's primary duty is to protect life and to ensure the safety and security of the nation," he said in commenting on reports that the police had acted brutally when dealing with the protestors. centre.
He was speaking to reporters after attending a cheque-presentation ceremony by the 1MCA Medical Foundation. A total of RM212,684.70 was handed out to 22 recipients with medical problems, at Wisma MCA here.
Chua said the voice of the silent majority who rejected the gathering must be given attention because they were aware the demonstration was only meant to tarnish the image and good name of the government and country
Claiming that the gathering was politically motivated, the MCA president rejected claims that the illegal gathering had received the support of the people, because the presence of a mere 20,000 people was a far cry from the actual national population.
He also dispelled claims that many Chinese youths took part in the gathering.
"I've seen the video...I don't think there were many Chinese there, most of them are members of Opposition parties," he said.
Chua said if MCA wanted to, it could also raise many members for a gathering.
Also present was his deputy Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who is also Health Minister.
